Drupal CMS German Installer¶
Works with Drupal CMS 2.2
Tested with Drupal CMS 2.2.0 and 2.2.1 (Drupal core 11.4). Drupal CMS 2.1.x is still supported. All changes, with their purpose explained, are listed in the Changelog.
The Drupal CMS German Installer makes the Drupal CMS installation completely German – from the first screen to the finished site. It extends the official installer instead of replacing it, and removes itself once its job is done.

Listen¶
Why these projects exist is also explained in a spoken version – in English and in German, about 20 to 25 minutes.
What it does¶
- The installation speaks German. The language dialog, the template descriptions, the status messages and the final page appear in German, even where the official translation still has gaps, and consistently use the formal "Sie".
- The template is German. It brings along a module that translates the content of the chosen template – pages, menus, forms, image descriptions – during installation.
- Known bugs no longer get in the way. It fixes bugs in Drupal CMS, Canvas, the templates and their themes that make a German installation fail or leave texts in English. Every fix checks first whether it is still needed.
- Useful add-on modules. It installs a few modules for German-language sites and sets the Gin admin theme to automatic dark mode.
- A face of its own. The installer itself gets a dark mode in Drupal navy, its own typography and smooth transitions between the steps.
How this works in detail is explained in How it works.
Two projects, one task
The translations of the templates are not part of the installer but of the module Default Content Locale Extended. The module works in any language and also without this installer. Who does what and why there are two projects is explained in Dubbed film and cinema in the module's documentation.
